Author Saadia Faruqi burst onto the children’s literary scene with the introduction of her Yasmin series in 2018. Published both individually and in a collection, the stories of the spunky, strong and smart Yasmin won rave reviews from critics, praise from teachers and the love of children. Although directed at ages 5-8 the combination of her humorous adventure stories and the whimsical, bold illustrations by Hatem Aly attract readers of all ages and backgrounds.
January 1, 2019 brought with it the release of several new Yasmin titles. Yasmin the Superhero, Yasmin the Teacher, Yasmin the Chef and Yasmin the Zookeeper are sold as individual volumes or you can buy a book with all four tales in them called Yasmin in Charge.
Yasmin is a girl of Pakistani descent and each title includes several pages in the back with Urdu words, Pakistan fun facts and craft, and activity ideas. These are quite simply some of the most exciting titles for early readers being produced at this time. Saadia is a Houston resident and has done several readings at local libraries, books stores, and schools. Follow all of her and Yasmin’s adventures on her website.
