Tweens Read is FREE: Houston Area Kids Can Meet Favorite Authors & Learn About New Authors!

Focused on 5th-8th Graders, Tweens Read is an annual celebration of reading. Hosted by the Blue Willow Bookshop, this event gives kids, parents, teachers, and librarians the opportunity to hear authors talk about their work, to hear samples of dozens of new books, and to purchase the books and have them signed by the authors at the end of the day.

Although the focus is on reading, there are many other things happening on site too. There are raffles, maker’s spaces, tables from local organizations ie: Harris County Public Library and food trucks for lunchtime!

Some of this year’s authors include familiar authors like Andrew Clements (Frindle, The Report Card), Victoria Jamieson (Rollergirl), and Jessica Brody (Unremembered, Disney’s Descendants) and new authors such as David Barclay-Moore (The Stars Beneath Our Feet), and Celia Perez (The First Rule of Punk).

The keynote speaker this year is astronaut Leland Melvin. He’ll be talking about his first book, Chasing Space.
