No matter what you’re expecting Bitch Planet to be, it will surprise you. It has the irreverence of books from the 1970’s, the bitter humor of books from the 1980’s, the bold illustrations of books from the 1990’s, and writing that is unlike anything currently seen in the graphic novel genre.
Space is the mother. Earth is the father. And for your wickedness your father has cast you out. You will live out your lives in penitence and service here on Bitch Planet.
The book opens with a group of women, new prisoners being processed for life on Bitch Planet. They are there because they don’t follow the ideals of the men in their world. They’re happy with their non-traditional thoughts, bodies, behaviors. The women begin small alliances, allegiances and fight for survival.
With humor, grit and brains this book is an explosion of energy. It is a disservice to divulge too much about the characters or their stories because the joy is in the discovery.
The individual issues have been released throughout the year to great praise and sales. The trade volume, containing the first five issues of Bitch Planet was released this October. The collection includes notes from the creators and questions to help readers understand the drive and goals of the book. The volume collection of Bitch Planet is a must for any graphic novel or alternative interest pop culture fans.
