Walking along a strip mall on Foch St. in Fort Worth, Texas, a painting of characters from the TV show Adventure Time attracted my daughter’s attention. We popped in to the shop to snap a picture, not noticing what business it was and were greeted by a friendly receptionist. Turns out that we had stumbled upon one of the coolest spots in the city.
Esoterica Salons uses an education based philosophy for it’s stylists and has a community hang-out environment for its clientele. Besides the services that one would expect from a hair salon: color, cuts, blow-drying; they also offer stylists for hire for weddings, films, to go to nursing homes and more!
We met Nekesa Mohler who alternates working at both the Dallas and the Fort Worth locations. She was knowledgeable about the focus of the business and welcomed us with a complete tour.
All of the art hanging up is created by local artists and all of the pieces are for sale. The collection is constantly rotating giving local artists an opportunity to showcase their work and patrons an introduction to artists that they may have otherwise not been privy too.
The back of the salon has a full bar and you’re welcome to have a beer or cocktail while you’re there. In fact, in the evenings the salon becomes a lounge. The couches are moved and live bands, DJ’s and special event are held. Every Fri., Sat., and Sun. night the lounge is open from 9-2.
