Just a Few Days Away! Houston Cinema Arts Fest Offers Events Around the City – Some FREE!

I’ve already blogged about the opening night film Waves, and the CineSpace 2019 screenings at this year’s Houston Cinema Arts Festival, but that is just the beginning.

On Friday, November 15th there are 8 different film opportunities! A few highlights are:

A Hidden Life by one of my favorite filmmakers, Terrence Malick (Days of Heaven, The Thin Red Line, Tree of Life). Released this year, the film is about a real-life hero, Franz Jägerstätter who refused to fight with the Nazis during World War II. The film will show at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston at 7:00 pm.

The Texas Filmmaker’s Showcase is always a great experience and is always FREE at Houston’s own Brasil. This year’s showcase features five short films made by Texans. There are often filmmakers present and the event is followed by a Q&A session. This year the screening will be at 7:00 pm.

Finally, Rice Cinema will be hosting a screening of the film Space Dogs at 8:00 pm. This is the story of two descendant street dogs of Laika, the Russian Astro-dog. It tells the story from the dog’s perspective and includes archival footage from the Soviet cosmic era. The film will be followed by a Q&A with directors Elsa Kremser and Levin Peter.
